For GM trucks & SUVs with AFM / DFM

Stop your engine from switching cylinders on and off hundreds of times a drive.

AFM was built to hit fuel economy targets, not to make your engine last. The AFM/DFM Disabler plugs into your OBD-II port and keeps the engine in full-cylinder mode, so you can skip the shudder, the oil top-offs, and the worry about the lifter failure you hear about on every GM forum.

✓ Plugs in under the dash in about 10 seconds
✓ No tools, no software, no shop visit
✓ Smoother driving without the V4-to-V8 switch
✓ Unplug it anytime to return to stock

The problem with AFM

To save a little fuel, AFM and DFM shut down some of your cylinders when you're cruising, then bring them back when you need power. Special lifters make that possible, and they do it hundreds of times on every drive.

Those lifters are one of the best-known weak points on these engines. When one fails, it can damage the camshaft and send metal through the rest of the engine. That's a repair bill of around $6,000, and a full engine replacement can cost over $10,000.

Even before anything breaks, you can feel it: a shudder at cruise, a lag when you accelerate, and a jolt when the cylinders kick back in. It's worst in stop-and-go traffic and on hills.

You paid for a V8. It shouldn't spend half its life acting like a V4.

Why the usual fixes are a hassle

Doing nothing means hoping your lifters are the lucky ones.

A shop AFM delete means a mechanic, a tuner and a bill that's a lot bigger than the cost of a gadget.

ECU tuning means software, laptops and changes that are hard to undo.

So most owners put it off until the engine starts ticking, and by then it can be too late.

A plug-in fix that takes 10 seconds

The AFM/DFM Disabler connects to your OBD-II port under the dash and keeps your engine in full V8 or V6 mode from the moment it's connected.

There's nothing to program and nothing to remove from the engine. If you ever want to go back to stock, unplug it.

It doesn't repair existing damage. It's meant for engines that haven't started having problems yet.

What it does for your truck

Stops the cylinder cycling

With AFM off, the lifters that switch cylinders on and off aren't working every few seconds, which is the exact thing owners worry about wearing out.

Smoother, more predictable power

No shudder at cruise and no lag when you get on the throttle.

Less oil burned between changes

Owners on AFM trucks often add 1–2 quarts between changes. Many report a big drop in consumption after disabling it.

No tools, no shop

Plug it in yourself in your driveway or the parking lot.

Reversible

Unplug it anytime and your truck is back to how it came from the factory.

Priced like a part, not a repair

$89 for one, less per unit when you buy more.

How it works

1 · Check compatibility

Use the fit checker on this page. It asks for your make, model, year, engine and transmission.

2 · Plug it in

Find the OBD-II port under your dash and plug the disabler in.

3 · Drive

Your engine stays in full-cylinder mode. Unplug it anytime to go back to stock.

What's it fit?

It's made for GM V6 and V8 vehicles with AFM or DFM, model years 2007–2022. AFM (2007–2018) and DFM (2019 and later) work on the same principle, and the device covers both on supported models.

That includes many Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon trucks and SUVs, plus V6 models like the Camaro, Colorado, Impala, ATS and CTS. Compatibility depends on your engine, transmission and model year, so use the fit checker above.

What owners say

8,000+ 5-star reviews

★★★★★

"Plugged it in two years ago, my Silverado still runs like new at 287K miles."

Mike R. · Verified buyer

★★★★★

"I just did my second oil change since putting my AFM disabler in. I recovered 5 full quarts. It's clearly cut down on oil consumption significantly."

James N. · Verified buyer

Individual results vary and depend on your engine's condition and maintenance.

Straight talk before you buy

Fuel economy: Expect a small drop. Most owners report about 0.5–1 MPG on the highway and little change in the city. The question is whether saving that MPG is worth the risk of a lifter failure.

It won't fix existing damage: If your truck is already ticking, knocking or misfiring, get it diagnosed first. The disabler is for engines that haven't started failing.

Warranty and emissions: The device is plug-in and removable, so you can take it out before a dealer visit. But we can't speak for how a dealer or extended-warranty provider treats aftermarket devices, so check your terms. Rules on emissions-related equipment vary by state and country, so check yours before installing.

No guarantees on your engine: This reduces a known source of wear. It can't promise your engine will never have a problem.

Questions owners ask

Will it void my warranty?

The disabler doesn't modify your ECU, and you can unplug it before a dealership visit. Many owners run it on trucks that are still under warranty. Warranty decisions are up to the dealer or warranty provider, so check your terms if that matters to you.

Is it safe to run all cylinders all the time?

GM V6 and V8 engines were designed to run on all cylinders, and did for decades before AFM existed. AFM was added to help meet fuel economy targets. Disabling it removes the constant cylinder cycling that wears the lifters.

Will I lose fuel mileage?

Slightly. Most owners report about 0.5–1 MPG less on the highway, with almost no change in city driving.

Will it fix my engine if it's already making noise?

No. It stops the system from running to help prevent future wear, but it can't reverse damage that's already happened. If your truck is ticking, knocking or misfiring, get it diagnosed first.

Will I get a check engine light?

The device is designed to hold full-cylinder mode without setting diagnostic codes, and most owners report that their dash looks the same as before. If you have any trouble, contact our customer support team.

Does it work on V6 engines too?

Yes. Several GM V6 engines, like the 3.6L in the Camaro, Colorado, Impala, ATS and CTS, also use AFM. It works on GM V6 and V8 vehicles with AFM or DFM, 2007–2022.

What's the difference between AFM and DFM?

AFM was used from 2007 to 2018. DFM is the updated version on 2019+ trucks. They work on the same principle, and the device covers both on supported model years.

The AFM/DFM Disabler is an aftermarket accessory and is not a repair. It does not reverse existing engine damage and does not guarantee against engine failure. Confirm compatibility before ordering, and check your warranty terms and local regulations before installing. Fuel economy and results vary by vehicle, condition and driving habits.
